OxygenIT carbon calculator provides enterprises the ability to compute the operational energy consumption and carbon footprint, and the embodied carbon footprint for different infrastructures (public cloud infrastructures, custom or on-premise ones). With OxygenIT, enterprises are able to calculate and reduce their carbon footprint emissions that impacts the environment.

Energy consumption, operational and embodied carbon footprint

OxygenIT computes several metrics:

  • The operational energy consumption, that corresponds to the energy when the instance/server is running,
  • The operational carbon footprint, that corresponds to the carbon emissions when the instance/server is running,
  • The construction footprint (“embodied”), related to the construction and installation of the instance/server.

The computation is very precise and takes into account lots of parameters: the availability zone, the instance or server architecture micro-architecture model and specifications (ram, disk...), the operational load, data communications, the PuE and energy provider carbon factor of each datacenter for each cloud provider or private data centers.

Same method applied to all infrastructure

OxygenIT uses the same methodology to calculate energy consumption or carbon footprint on all clouds or infrastructure. That means that metrics can be used to compare different infrastructure, which is an important criteria in order to define concrete carbon footprint reduction plans.

Available using APIs

OxygenIT carbon calculator can be accessed by APIs. It enables to calculate energy and carbon footprint on any kind of bare metal server or instance of public/private cloud or on-premise/owned infrastructures.

These APIs can be used to compute the carbon emissions of an infrastructure:

  • In real-time to get a live carbon dashboard
  • After execution, for example to compute the carbon footprint of the previous year
  • Ponctually when required

They can also be used to create carbon reduction plans by simulating architecture changes and calculate impact. For example compute the carbon footprint:

  • When changing or instance model on the public cloud or on-premise
  • Moving to another region,
  • Moving to another cloud,
  • ... anything that could help manage sustainability and go to a Green IT!

Fully integrated on our CaaS

These metrics (Energy Consumption, Co2eq usage and Co2eq embodiment) are automatically provided for the infrastructure managed by ScaleDynamics CaaS on each Runner view. With these metrics users can get the carbon footprint for their cloud workflows, per infrastructure component, without any integration step.
